Just before Christmas, Bria got something stuck in her teeth. I grabbed a piece of floss to help get it out when I noticed one of the teeth was wiggly! From that moment on she was constantly wiggling with that thing until three weeks later, I got an email from her teacher at school. During lunch, after biting into her sandwich, Bria lost her first tooth.
She couldn't stop smiling all day and was so excited to stash it under her pillow that night. Wanting it to be shiny clean for the tooth fairy, Bria decided to give her tiny tooth a bath in the sink. (Had I known her plan, I would have found a safer route for polishing.) You can see where this is going; the poor little tooth got rinsed down the drain. Oh the tears! Poor B was so sad to miss out on the quintessential lost tooth experience, but we settled on writing a letter to the tooth fairy.
"Dear Tooth Fairy,
I lost my first tooth today! I wanted it to be shiny and clean, so I tried to wash it, but it went down the drain in my bathroom. I hope that's ok. Love, Bria."
Even though I assured her I knew many other kids who had also lost their first lost tooth (including my sister Amy!) Bria did not believe the tooth fairy would leave her a reward. Because I have an in with the fairy, I promised Bria that, if the tooth fairy did not come, I would run around outside completely naked.
And luckily, that night, the tooth fairy came through for me, which is good. I would have been rather uncomfortable having to fulfill my promise.
On a sentimental note, I was surprised by how bittersweet this moment was for me. It was such visible proof that my little girl is growing up. I remember so clearly when that first tooth grew in, and now it's gone!
