Squirmy Wormy

I took a few videos of Bria to put up here. I wanted her to roll over, but she was always too interested in the camera. So I took one of her rolling over from behind.

Also, Bria has become quite the squirmer lately. We were at my parents' house and Bria was down for a nap. When I went up to get her, she had somehow wiggled (on her back) about a foot away from where I had put her down, and she was now at an angle. Last night, she did the same thing. She has a sleep positioner that is just two triangular blocks to keep her from rolling, but she wiggled up out of the triangles, kicked them to the foot of her crib, and she was angled with her head touching one side of the crib. She was completely unwrapped as well. It would be cute except she wakes herself up by doing this.

Also, I hadn't really tried to sit Bria up on her own, but yesterday I tried. She can prop herself up using her hands for quite a while. I ended up just picking her up when she started to fuss, she never fell over. She may be sitting before I know it!

Sam and I are headed to Colorado this weekend! We are leaving Bria with my mom and sister, and we are so excited to spend our three-year anniversary together! Well, our anniversary is the day after we get back, but I definitely think this counts.

ok, here's the video:

Two Videos

Ok, so both of these videos are way old, but I wanted to see what I could do. If this works out, I'll try and video Bria later today and get something a little more exciting.

The first one is when Bria was only a few weeks old and she had the hiccups and we thought it was funny. She had been squeaking, but then she stopped as soon as we started taping.

This one is when I thought Bria would roll over, but then she just got frustrated. I think her head got too heavy or something.

Zucchini Recipe

I made this zucchini dish this week and thought it was so good, I've been emailing it to everyone. Now I just thought I would post it on my blog so even more people can share in on the deliciousness.

8 C sliced Zucchini (I used 3 or 4 zucchini-- I don't know how many cups it was)
1 C chopped onion
1/2 c or so broth
1 T or so Worcestershire sauce

Cook in a pan on the stove until soft, then mash it a little. Drain any excess liquid.

Add:
2 C cooked brown rice (a real nutty mix of rices w/wild is very good)
Throw in some cheese: some cheddar, some parmesan, whatever you’ve got at whatever level of cheesiness you prefer.
Add some sour cream or milk for whatever level of creamy fattiness you prefer.
1/4 C or so of bread crumbs (you can skip these, but helps with texture)
2 eggs
salt and pepper to taste

bake 350, 30 min

(I added some chopped up fresh green beans last time I made it and it added a lovely slight crunch texture. Some pine nuts or shelled pumpkin seeds would be nice, I think or throw in whatever you’ve got around.)

I read this woman's blog and recently learned that she was in a terrible plane crash. Stephanie and Christian Nielson (of Mesa, AZ) were flying with Christian's flight instructor when the plane crashed. The flight instructor passed away the next day, and Stephanie and Christian are in critical condition as burn patients. They have four small children from ages 1-6.

I'm fairly active in the LDS blogging community, and both Stephanie's blog as well as her sister's blog have been some of my favorites to read. They are both witty and intelligent and examples of the type of woman and mother I hope to be. It's amazing how much some people can impact your lives when you haven't even met them.

If you have time to read about their situation and send prayers and faith there way, I know it would be appreciated. They have also set up bank accounts for donations, since their recoveries will total bills into the millions.

I know what this means-- MORE SLEEP FOR ME!

I keep trying to get Sam to upload a video to the blog, so maybe in a couple of days we'll get one up. Until then, I can share our fabulous, oh-so exciting news: Bria slept through the night! We put her down to bed last night at around 9:30, and she didn't wake up until 8:00. Sam and I woke up at 8:00 and realized that she hadn't woken up at all. I decided to go check on her, and she was just lying in her crib awake, just kicking her feet. I can't even tell you how excited I am about this new development. Also, since we have moved, Bria has developed a much better napping routine. She had about two rough days of 30-45 minute naps, but now she usually naps somewhere between 1.5 - 2.5 hours. I am loving it. I should probably use that napping time to finish unpacking, but I am feeling rather unmotivated. Oh well.

Sam and I are going to Colorado next weekend where Food Boy is going to be in the Moondance Film Festival in Boulder. It will be a fun way to spend our anniversary weekend, and I am excited to see some of my friends and show Bria around my home state. I know she will really appreciate it. Ha ha. I haven't been to Denver since my friend Jenna got married over two years ago! I can't believe it's been that long. Anyway, if you know anyone in Colorado, make sure to tell them about the Moondance Film Festival, and tell them to go see Food Boy!

More Change

Tonight is our last night in this apartment. We have lived here for nearly four months, so it seems odd to be moving again so soon. I have spent the summer de-junking, so this move is much more organized than the last. I took a trunk full of stuff to DI on Saturday, which felt so nice. I have thrown away so much and I am really proud of myself. I tend to hold on to stuff just in case I ever (and I mean ever) need it. I think this stems from the time my parents made me give/throw away half my shoes when I went to college and I still miss some of those shoes (I used to have upwards of 60 pairs). But I am now reconciling myself with the fact that I may never fit in those white pants I wore when I was 16 and if some of the shoes I am now throwing away come back into style, I can buy new ones. It's very refreshing to feel like I only own what I need and use.

We are now on to our fourth apartment as a married couple. We are excited to move to more northern Provo and get away from some of the student traffic. We are also going to be attending a family ward, which will be a nice change of pace from the student ward we have attended since we got married (the same ward all three years). It will be nice to feel a little more settled than we've felt all summer, but I also hope we won't live there too long. It will be at least four months, but maybe as many as twelve. Either way, we are going to really try and make it feel like home.

Ladies and Gentlemen . . .

We have a laughing, rolling baby! That's right folks, Bria has shocked us all by laughing and rolling over for the first time both within the last five days!

The first laugh came on Tuesday (for me) and then didn't appear again until tonight (for Sam). She first rolled over Friday morning. I set her down on her tummy and then I sat down at the table to write a letter to my sister. I just wrote the address on the envelope when I looked up, and Bria was on her back (looking quite shocked, I might add). Then today, she rolled over while both Sam and I were watching. It makes me so happy! I can't believe how fast she is growing. She really has made some big development over the past week-- grabbing toys and chewing on them, gaining more control over her hands and arms, etc. It's so fun to watch.

Also, we have been without the internet for FIVE DAYS! It comes free at our apartment, and then it just stopped working on Tuesday. I am pretty mad about it, since our landlords have been pretty evasive about the whole deal. We hope it will work sometime next week, but who knows? I had to come up to campus tonight just to check my email. Maybe it's good to break my computer addiction, but I would still rather have the internet at home!
